Trust me...this poster is not a contender for the rapture. At first glance one might think this would be a poster for a parody movie given Cage's dumbfounded expression, and not to mention the silly mugs on everyone else. The artificial lighting on the characters creates an awkward cut-out look, and there's something strange going on with the size of the receding road and waves in the background. I'd almost expect to see a bearded Forrest Gump to be running down that road...maybe he's what Cage and Co. are staring at."Nic, I just felt like runnnning!" And before I forget, let's not ignore that genius tagline "The End Begins." Where have we heard that one before? Oh, just about every other dramatic movie out there. Audiences, it's quite clear from this poster that some creative team needs to repent.

I would like to unofficially dub 2013 "The Year Movie Poster Characters Turned Their Backs on Everyone." Why? You may ask. Take a look at the compilation of many of this year's posters. I don't think I've seen as many backs turned as I have since...well, I don't really know. We might even call it "Joker Syndrome," as seen in the poster for THE DARK KNIGHT, which seems to have inspired many other blockbuster film posters to turn their characters' backs in a badass fashion. It appears that "backs turned" has been the go-to design for subsequently all teaser posters this year. I will admit that even though it is getting to be a tiring concept, it can look reeeally cool in most cases, like the teasers for OBLIVION and THE HOBBIT. Whatever the design though, Ryan Britt explains it perfectly in this post on tor.com: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/01/the-19th-century-painting-that-most-blockbuster-movie-posters-are-based-on By Breanne Brennan
As you may have heard, Warner Brothers and Weinstein Company have butted heads over the title registration of the upcoming film THE BUTLER. Turns out WB wants to protect their 1916 silent film of the same title that I'm sure nobody has ever seen. The movie is now called LEE DANIELS' THE BUTLER, but I think all these changing titles might confuse old white movie-goers. I had someone come up to me and ask, "What is the movie coming out that's like THE HELP, but for men?" That being said, here's a new title that the old white people might relate to better... By Breanne Brennan I'd like to introduce a new segment to the CDB called "Poster Double-Take." Here we'll examine upcoming posters that look a wee bit familiar--almost like a poster that we've seen in the past. Today I'm featuring one of the character posters for PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS. The high-contrast of the character's profile and the layout brings to mind a certain set of character posters for another blockbuster film: THE HUNGER GAMES. When I saw a thumbnail version of the PJSOM poster, I automatically thought it was going to be another character set for CATCHING FIRE. Oops, I was wrong. One might have thought the design studio was just recycling their previous layout, but they are actually made by two different studios. *cough* ripoff!
